Test ASUS Sabertooth X58 Motherboard
I. Test System
All testing was done on a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with all the latest updates installed. All benchmarks were completed on the desktop with no other software programs running. The Corsair DOMINATOR memory modules were run in triple-channel mode at 1600MHz with 8-8-8-24 timings. The ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics cards were run with 10.5 CATALYST suite drivers. The I7 950 processor was running at the default clock of 3.06 with turbo enabled.

II. 3d Mark Ventage Test
3DMark Vantage is the new industry standard PC gaming performance benchmark from Futuremark, newly designed for Windows Vista and DirectX10. It includes two new graphics tests, two new CPU tests, several new feature tests, and support for the latest hardware. 3DMark Vantage is based on a completely new rendering engine, developed specifically to take full advantage of DirectX10, the new graphics API from Microsoft.
Benchmark Results: The ASUS Sabertooth was able to outperform the MSI Big Bang XPower by nearly 400 points in the overall score and nearly 500 points in the GPU scores!
III. USB 3.0 Performance Testing
HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.
Benchmark Results: The ASUS Sabertooth X58 has average read speeds that are on par with the other top performing boards that we have seen to date. The average write speeds of the ASUS Sabertooth was able to exceed the performance of any of the other boards that I have tested to date by nearly 1.3%!
Testing of the USB3 was done using The hard drive used was a Western Digital 640Gb Black Edition Hard drive.
Benchmark Results: HD Tune shows us very similar results to HD Tach. The ASUS Sabertooth X58 has average read and write rates that are at the top of the charts while the burst speeds of the ASUS Sabertooth X58 were able to exceed what we have seen to date.
IV. SATA6 Performance Test
Benchmark Results: It seems that an average read rate of 109.1MB/s is the limit of the Western Digital 1TB Black Edition as six of our seven boards including the ASUS Sabertooth X58 have been able to hit that. As far as the average write speeds the ASUS Sabertooth X58 motherboard fell just behind the fastest boards, though it was by only .7MB/s or .9%
HD Tune Pro 4.01 is an extended version of HD Tune which includes many new features such as write benchmark, secure erasing, AAM setting, folder usage view, disk monitor, command line parameters and file benchmark.Testing of the USB3 was done using the hard drive used was a Western Digital 640Gb Black Edition Hard drive.
Benchmark Results: The HD Tune results show that all of the boards are very comparable to each other. The burst rates are the only things that seem to change dramatically. The ASUS Sabertooth X58 does have the highest burst speeds in read and write of any of the motherboards that we have tested.
V. Test Game Alien Vs Predator Bechmark V1.03
Aliens vs. Predator is an entirely new title for PC and high-definition consoles from acclaimed British developer Rebellion, the team behind the 1999 original PC gaming classic. Bringing the most intense war between two of science-fiction’s most popular characters FPS fans, AvP delivers three outstanding single player campaigns and provides untold hours of unique 3-way multiplayer gaming. Experience distinctly new and thrilling first person gameplay as you survive, hunt and prey in the deadly jungles and swamps surrounding the damned colony of Freya’s Prospect.
We cranked up all the image quality settings in the benchmark to the highest level possible, so we were running 4x AA and 16x AF with SSAO enabled at both 1920x1200 and 1280x1024 on all the video cards.
Benchmark Results: The ASUS Sabertooth X58 falls right in line with all of the boards we have tested. Unfortunately, Aliens Vs. Predator doesn't show us much of a performance difference but the ASUS Sabertooth X58 is performing at the top of the chart!
